| The Dump - Houston, TX (Furniture Store) |
The mirrors ranged from small face mirrors, to ornate mirrors that could easily cover a wall, from ceiling to floor. The Dump's rug department contains the largest group of reasonably priced rugs that I've ever seen. Their sizes ranged from small mats to rugs that will completely cover the floor in just about any room. The Dump also had game tables, bar stands, armoires, library bookshelves and grandfather clocks. Not much looked cookie cutter and I was shocked at the low prices.
If you are looking for more standard furniture, The Dump also has rows and rows of couches, chairs and beds also at reasonable prices. The Dump's showroom is huge, probably about the size of a larger super Wal-mart. There are plenty of sales people willing to assist. It is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but it's worth making the effort to come on those days. I did not attempt to buy anything on the day that I visited but I did ask a salesperson if they negotiated the sales prices. Happily, the answer was yes.
In researching The Dump, I did come across some negative reviews where the wrong items or damaged items were delivered and The Dump refused to exchange the items for free. It charged the customer a restocking fee and applied another delivery charge. Other complaints discussed The Dump's refusal to accept returns and refund a customer's money. Make sure that any assurances you get from The Dump about refunds, returns, payments or any other matters are set out clearly in writing.
If you have children, leave them at home if you can. Between all the hiding places the furniture presents and the masses of people, it would be easy to lose track of a little one here, especially if you're concentrating on finding the perfect piece. The Dump also has a store in Dallas. For more information, visit The Dump's Houston website here, http://www.thedump.com/stores_houston.html.
